Frist Humanitarian Awards at South Bay Hospital

Sun City Center, Florida (June 10, 2009) - South Bay Hospital honored our Frist Humanitarian Award winners by hosting the Annual Service Awards Banquet. The Frist Humanitarian Awards were created in 1971 to honor outstanding individuals for their humanitarian and volunteer activities. This award recognizes individuals whose daily dedication and care giving epitomize the highest standards of quality and personal commitment and are given annually in recognition of the humanitarian spirit and philanthropic work of the late Dr. Thomas F. Frist, Sr., a founder of HCA.

South Bay Hospital’s 2008 Frist Employee Humanitarian Award Winner is Shonn Latimer. Shonn works as a PBX operator and is known for her pleasant demeanor with callers and co-workers, as well as her willingness to help everyone she can. She consistently seeks out ways that she can help other departments. Shonn is also the secretary for South Bay Hospital’s Employee Advisory Group and volunteers to help with many of the EAG activities, such as the Hospital Clean the Grounds Day and the Holiday Party planning committee. She also volunteers with her church and in her neighborhood, frequently transporting friends and neighbors to medical appointments and to run errands. Her servant attitude and mission to the community make her an ideal recipient of this award.

The 2008 Frist Physician Humanitarian Award Winner is Cecil Sue-Wah-Sing, MD. Dr. Sue-Wah-Sing demonstrates an avid commitment to his patients. He is always polite and treats both his patients and the hospital staff with respect and courtesy. Dr. Sue-Wah-Sing served as the South Bay Hospital Department of Medicine Chair from 2005-2006 and as Chief of Staff from 2007-2008. He is very active in the community and worked collaboratively with others to form the group, Concerned Parents of Autistic Children. This non-profit support group helps bring together parents and caregivers of autistic children as well as raise awareness about autism. Dr. Sue-Wah-Sing’s dedication, loyalty and devotion to the community make him deserving of this award.

South Bay Hospital’s 2008 Frist Volunteer Humanitarian Award Winner is Marie Musgrove. Marie can be described as possessing a unique compassion and authenticity that is unparalleled. She frequently covers other volunteers when they are out of town or not feeling well enough to cover their shift. Marie has also expanded her role at the information desk by stepping outside of her comfort level and assisting visitors with other needs, such as entertaining young children, providing comfort and kind words, and obtaining water and coffee for guests in the lobby. Outside the hospital, she performs remarkable services within the community, including acting as Minister of the Eucharist at her church, assisting with church bulletins, and participating as an active member of her church’s bereavement committee. She truly exemplifies the humanitarian spirit.
